Hapag-Lloyd will apply general rate increases on all cargo moving from Far East Asia to the Indian subcontinent and the Persian Gulf.
The German carrier said rates from Far East Asia, excluding Japan, to the Indian subcontinent will increase by $100 per 20-foot container, starting Feb. 15. The subcontinent region includes ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The planned increase on shipments moving to the Gulf region will be $150 per 20-foot container, effective March 1.
Meanwhile, Orient Overseas Container Line announced a $220 per-TEU GRI on westbound trade from India and the Middle East to North Europe, starting Feb. 8. OOCL’s notice follows similar increases by other major carriers, including Maersk Line, Hapag-Lloyd, Mediterranean Shipping and CSAV.
