CSAV’s container volume increased by 48 percent in the first four months of 2011, the Chilean carrier said Thursday.
But CSAV also saw its average global container rates fall to the lowest level since January 2010. The carrier’s rate index of 1,573.1 in April was down 2 percent from March and 5.3 percent below the year-ago level.
Its container fleet transported 1.16 million 20-foot equivalent units of containers in the four months through April, compared to 784,000 TEUs in the same period last year.
CSAV’s global April container volume was 284,000 TEUs, up 37 percent from the same month last year.
CSAV, which has added charter vessels to its container ship fleet this year, was ranked No. 1 this month in Drewry Maritime Research's latest report on schedule reliability, knocking Maersk Line from the top spot.
