The volume of containers transported by CSAV in March of this year fell by more than half year-over-year as the Chilean carrier cut its vessel capacity by 50 percent from levels in the first few months of last year as part of its restructuring.
In the same month, however, the index of average revenue per container carried by CSAV rose 1.9 percent to 1,796.7 per 20-foot-equivalent unit, from 1,605.7 per TEU a year earlier. The carrier’s revenue index also rose 7.3 percent month-over-month from 1,675.0 per TEU in February.
In March CSAV transported 146,100 20-foot equivalent units, a drop of 53 percent from the 308,900 TEUs it carried in March 2011. The March volume was also 9.4 percent lower than the 161,300 TEUs it carried in February.
