APL Hikes Some Asia Rates

APL has announced several rate increases and bunker surcharges that will go into effect in March and April.

The ocean carrier will increase rates on its trade from Mexico to Asia, Australia, the Middle East and West Asia, effective March 6. The hike will be $750 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container. This does not apply to refrigerated containers of avocados.

APL will also increase rates on its trade from Asia (excluding Japan, but including Australia, the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East) to North Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea by $650 per 20-foot-equivalent unit, beginning March 15.

The Singapore-based company will hike rates on its trade from Asia, the Middle East and West Asia to British Columbia, starting April 1. The hike will be $320 per 20-foot container, $40 per 40-foot container, $450 per 40-foot high-cube container and $505 per 45-foot container. The ocean carrier will also increase rates on its trade from Asia, the Middle East and West Asia to Canada, excluding British Columbia, by $480 per 20-foot container, $600 per 40-foot container, $675 per 40-foot high-cube container and $760 per 45-foot container, starting April 1.

Additionally, APL will implement a bunker surcharge on trade from India to Central America and South America, effective April 1. The surcharge will be $27 per 20-foot container, $595 per 40-foot container, $1,185 per 40-foot and 40-foot high-cube container and $1,500 per 48-foot container.

APL will also implement a bunker surcharge on trade from Asia, Australia, East Africa, the Middle East and West Asia to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico, starting April 1. The surcharge will be $23 per 20-foot container, $615 per 40-foot container, $766 per 40-foot high-cube container, $860 per 45-foot container and $970 per 48-foot container.
