APL Revenue per Container Slips; Volume Grows

APL’s container shipping volume gained 12 percent year-over-year in the four weeks that ended April 8, but average revenue per container slipped, parent company Neptune Orient Lines said.

Volume during the period totaled 229,700 40-foot-equivalent units while average revenue was $2,557 per FEU.

Higher intra-Asia and Asia-Europe volumes drove the increase, NOL said while blaming the decline in average revenue per FEU mainly on falling Asia-Europe rates and a changing cargo mix associated with higher intra-Asia volumes.

Through April 8, APL’s container volume totaled 764,000, up 9 percent from a year earlier, while average revenue rose 3 percent to $2,598.
