APL Restructures Indian Subcontinent-Red Sea Service

Singapore-based container carrier APL is reorganizing its Subcontinent-Red Sea Express (SRX) Service, effective in July.

The changes include new port calls at Sokhna, Egypt, and Sohar, Oman, and suspension of the existing calls at Karachi, Pakistan, and Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

The revised SRX port rotation is Mundra, Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), Salalah, Djibouti, Sokhna, Jeddah, Djibouti, Salalah, Jebel Ali, Sohar and back to Mundra.

The first vessel to call Nhava Sheva under the new schedule will be the APL Alexandrite, arriving July 4.

Separately, APL said it will impose an “equipment imbalance surcharge” on shipments from India to Australia and the Middle East. Starting July 1, the planned surcharges will be $75 per 20-foot container and $150 per 40-foot/high cube container.

The surcharges will apply to all cargo and containers, including open-top and flat-rack equipment, the carrier said.
