A.P. Moller Maersk will ask energy trading company Vitol regarding its use of the Maersk Producer, a chartered tanker that Reuters reports received a fuel oil cargo of Iranian origin on Sept. 8, shipped from Malaysia to Singapore.
Vitol disclosed last week that it had bought 2 million barrels of Iranian fuel but said it has now ordered a stop to all trade with Iran. The U.S. and the European Union have sanctions in place against Iran.
Maersk did not know the vessel would be used to transport Iranian oil, Per Juul, managing director of the agent for Maersk, said in an email to Reuters reporters.
