Werner Enterprises isn’t waiting for a U.S. economic recovery — it’s searching for one in Australia.
The $2.2 billion Omaha, Neb.-based trucking and logistics operator established Werner Global Logistics Australia to build up its business Down Under.
“Australia is a market that is relatively insulated from the global economic downturn,” said Graig Stoffel, vice president of Werner Global Logistics.
A leading index for the Australian economy leaped in September, leading some economists there to expect a return to growth as high as 4 percent next year.
Werner Global Logistics Australia will offer freight forwarding, logistics, transportation and distribution services in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
