A maritime labor representative has been nominated to the Federal Maritime Commission for the first time and the existing chairman, Richard A. Lidinsky Jr., was nominated for another term, the White House announced Friday.
William P. Doyle, chief of staff for the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association, has been on the union’s staff for the last decade, serving as deputy general counsel, director of government and legislative affairs. He was director of permits, schedules and compliance for Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects' office of federal coordinator.
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy graduate has a law degree from Widener University.
If confirmed by the Senate, Doyle would replace Commissioner Joseph E. Brennan, who has remained on the commission since his term expired in 2008. Doyle’s term will expire in 2013. Confirmation would give Lidinsky a full five-year term that expires in 2017. He joined the commission in July 2009 and was appointed chairman in September 2009.
