A decade after its signing, and five years after full implementation, the Central America Free Trade Agreement may not have transformed Central America into the powerhouse of textile and apparel trade forecast by some optimists, but it has facilitated significant growth in that sector of the region’s economy, along with diversification into other sectors.

U.S. containerized exports inched up roughly 1 percent year-over-year in July, to 966,148 20-foot-equivalent units, according to preliminary figures from PIERS, a JOC sister company. July’s slight increase was a rebound from a 4.5 percent drop in June, when exports hit their lowest level since July 2011.

June was the best month of the year so far for U.S. beef and pork exports, according to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
