The number of foreign trade containers handled by the Port of Tokyo rose 2.8 percent in 2013 from a year earlier to a new record high of 4.353 million 20-foot-equivalent units, according to preliminary figures released by the Tokyo metropolitan government.

U.S. cross-border traffic with Canada via truck saw increases in both directions in July, following two months of year-over-year declines in truck imports and exports, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. Rail exports dropped this month, while imports continued to show growth.

U.S. cross-border traffic with Canada via truck and rail declined 2.1 percent from $39.2 billion in June 2012 to $38.4 billion this June, according to data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The value of imports by rail from Canada was the only of these types of surface trade to see a slight increase year-over-year.
