South African delegation seeking export market arrives in Mozambique

The South African business delegation has arrived in Tete, Mozambique to seek trade and investment opportunities. The delegation is participating in an Outward Trade and Investment Mission (OTIM) to Mozambique taking place from today to 19 June 2015. It has been organised by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti).

According to the Councillor Economic of South Africa to Maputo, Mr Matome Kgowedi, the mission could not have come at a more opportune time, just after a successful state visit to Mozambique by the President of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma.

Kgowedi, who was welcoming the SA delegation to Tete, said both President Zuma and his Mozambican counterpart, President Filipe Nyusi agreed to strengthen trade and investment relations.

“With this foundation and commitment showed by the leaders, businesspeople should take advantage of the opportunities available. The ground is fertile for business to tap into, build relations and for partnerships. The framework is there, what is needed is for you to make the most of the platforms that have been created,” said Kgowedi.

He added that amongst the abundance of opportunities that the Tete Province provides, mining stood out, particularly with the discovery of coal. That, he emphasised, presented ample opportunities for South African businesses to explore.

The programme for the mission will kick-off with a business seminar which will be addressed by the Chairman of the Confederation of Economic Association in Tete, Mr Carlos Cardoso, Governor of Tete Province, Mr Paulo Awade, and a presentation on the Investment opportunities in Tete Province. Delegates will also participate in roundtable discussions, business-to-business meetings and site visits on the second day, before proceeding to Maputo for the second leg of the mission.

The business delegation comprises of businesspeople from the built environment professionals, electro-technical, mining and capital equipment, railways and steel fabrication, and steel tubing sectors.
