The Panama Canal Authority said it will implement “green building” practices with regard to future construction. The guidelines, which would apply to both renovations and new construction such as offices located near new locks, call for the use of natural light, occupancy sensors and timers, and white roofs, among other measures.
Earlier this year, the Canal Authority signed a technical cooperation agreement with Panama’s National Environmental Authority and the German Agency for International Cooperation in an effort to protect forests.
