The real value of highway construction in January rose 4.3 percent compared with the same month in 2012, according to the latest analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association.
“With warmer than average temperatures across the country, many contractors were able to get more done on transportation projects, providing a market boost early this year,” said Alison Premo Black, ARTBA chief economist, in a written statement.
However, Black warned that it remains to be seen if the trend will continue, nothing that contract awards for highway projects have been down. The stalemate over the federal budget situation is another factor that could have an impact on the market over the next few months, she added.
