Thirty-four states and three territories will receive $215 million in federal reimbursement for repairs to roads and bridges damaged by natural disasters, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Monday.
“Communities suffering from disasters have been hard at work restoring vital transportation links so that people can resume daily activities as soon as possible,” LaHood said. "They did their part, and now it’s our turn to give the states the money they were promised to help pay for that work.”
California will receive the most reimbursement, with the Department of Transportation giving the state $43.4 million for repairs related to flooding earthquakes. North Dakota will receive $31.5 million to reimburse repairs caused by flooding in the Devil’s Lake region, and Vermont will get $15.4 million for repairs to bridge and roads damaged by Tropical Storm Irene, according to the recipient list.
