Westfalia wins third consecutive top Green Providers Award

York, Pa. – Westfalia Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of logistics solutions for manufacturers, warehouses and distribution centers since 1992, announces that it has won its third consecutive Food Logistics Top Green Providers Award for helping the food and beverage industry enhance sustainability in their supply chains. With its “Go Green with High Density” warehouse automation solutions, Westfalia provides clients with the ability to minimize their building footprint, lower energy usage and reduce waste production.

“Bringing ‘green’ initiatives into supply chains is no longer a trend, but a best practice,” said Dan Labell, president, Westfalia Technologies. “Organizations understand the importance of sustainability in not only uncovering additional cost savings, but in reducing their own carbon footprint. The beauty of warehouse automation technology, like automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), is its ability to both promote green initiatives and help companies drive overall operational efficiencies.”

The Top Green Providers focuses on sustainability in the global food supply chain with profiles of companies who are exceeding industry standards in their sector. This year’s list includes grocers, 3PLs, cold storage providers, pallet and packaging manufacturers, software and technology companies and others whose products and services are elevating sustainability to a “competitive advantage” in the industry.

Those who use Westfalia’s automation technology are able to reduce their overall building footprint by up to 50% (versus conventional warehouses), while expanding their storage capacity by 30-50%. These savings result in an average reduction of energy costs by 40%. Also, Westfalia’s AS/RS has a lifespan of 25-30 years, so the savings are also sustainable, as the technology lasts well into the future.

“The 2015 Top Green Providers list is our largest ever, signaling the growing importance of sustainability throughout the global food and beverage supply chain,” said Lara L. Sowinski, editor-in-chief for Food Logistics. “Applying sustainable practices in the agriculture, transportation, warehousing and retailing sectors is critical in addressing the environmental and business demands of the 21st century, particularly for our industry.”

Companies on this year’s Top Green Providers list will be profiled in the June 2015 print issue of Food Logistics, as well as online at www.foodlogistics.com.
