South African Box Terminal Operator Reports Record Volumes

South African port operator Transnet Port Terminals’ Eastern Cape Container Terminals moved record cargo volumes in December.

Ngqura Container Terminal handled 37.7 container moves per gross crane hour, jumping 66 percent from its container handling rate in 2009 when the terminal opened. Port Elizabeth Container Terminal achieved an average of 29 moves per gross crane hour, rising 27 percent.

Year-over-year figures also showed strong growth of container handling at both terminals, the company said in a written statement.
