Ryder has supplied 13 custom-built DAF CF 26-tonne and LF 21-tonne and 18-tonne vehicles to Matthew Clark, the UK’s largest national drinks wholesaler, as part of the company’s plan to upgrade and increase the carrying capacity of its fleet to significantly reduce its delivery costs.

The ultra low height 6x2 rear steer large goods vehicles (LGVs), with Bevan curtainside bodies, will form part of the 190 vehicle drinks distribution fleet that Ryder supplies to Matthew Clark nationwide and which the firm operates from 14 strategically located depots.

“We handle more than 15,000 customer deliveries during a typical week so managing operational costs is an important factor of our business.” comments Daniel Haddon, Matthew Clark’s purchasing controller, “In partnership with Ryder, we made a detailed evaluation of our delivery patterns, load factors and routes, and concluded that we could make cost-efficiency savings in a number of areas by increasing the carrying capacity of most of our vehicle fleet.”

“In fact, we estimate that we can increase our carrying capacity by approximately 16% by replacing our existing 18 and 12-tonne vehicles with 26 and 21-tonne LGVs combined, whilst continually looking at ways at to improve our operational efficiencies and driver experience.”

John Rice, Ryder’s sales director own account, comments, “We’ve had a close working relationship with Matthew Clark for a decade now, and have helped to evolve its delivery fleet in line with the constant changes and demands of its business. The new trucks were custom-built to provide Matthew Clarke with a more cost-efficient delivery operation and we look forward to working with the company to help it achieve further operational efficiencies going forward.”
