Ryder System, Inc. is a provider of commercial transportation, logistics, and supply chain management solutions, serving customers throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Founded in 1933 with headquarters in Miami, Florida, the company reported 2013 revenue of $6.3 billion, up 3 percent year-over-year. The company also recorded a net income of $238 million, up 13 percent from the previous year’s net income of $210 million.

Ryder System and its key segments — Ryder Fleet Management Solutions, Ryder Supply Chain Solutions, and Ryder dedicated — employ 28,900 individuals worldwide and operate a fleet of nearly 30,000 vehicles, one of the largest in the industry. Ryder offers integrated solutions in warehousing and distribution, transportation leasing and management, and dedicated and brokerage services.

Ryder System reported its profit in the fourth quarter jumped 20 percent from $53.8 million in 2012 to $64.6 million in 2013, ending the year on an upswing after profit fell in the previous quarter.

The 10 largest dedicated contract carriers increased revenue 3.9 percent in 2012, a big drop from a 17.5 percent surge in 2011. But their performance, which in part reflected weaker overall trucking demand in 2012 and a difficult comparison with the previous year’s strong gains in dedicated business, differed greatly from company to company.
