Norbert Dentressangle reported that its freight forwarding division in Chile, which launched 18 months ago, handled 1,500 metric tons of blueberries and cherries from Chile to the U.S., China and Europe in December 2012, jumping almost 50 percent from December 2011, according to Fruitnet.
The provider of perishable air freight management services is now considered to be one of the country’s top 5 shippers of perishable products, ND said in a written statement.
As a result of the high volume of shipments in December, ND chartered two Boeing 767s for the export of blueberries from Chile to Miami.
“From startup in 2011, our perishables business has developed rapidly in line with the dynamic growth in the Chilean export market,” said Antoine Pascual, managing director of the ND Overseas Chile and Latin America group.
