Kuehne + Nagel Acquires Canadian Perishables Forwarder

Kuehne + Nagel is acquiring the business contracts of Canada’s Perishables International Transportation in the latest expansion of Swiss logistics giant’s global fresh and frozen foods network.

Kuehne + Nagel didn’t say how much it is paying for PIT, an independent freight forwarder established in 1991, which is based at Vancouver International Airport.

“Following the general expansion of our perishables logistics business in Australia, Europe and South America, the acquisition of Perishables International Transportation allows us to grow these activities in North America,” said Tim Scharwath, Kuehne + Nagel’s executive vice president of air logistics. “The timing of this transaction ahead of the peak season is ideal and will also strengthen our position in the Canadian air freight market.”

PIT’s location provides access to all major airlines, allowing for later cutoffs and shorter transit times for products such as fruits, vegetables and seafood, K+N said.
