DHL Global Forwarding has launched two new less-than-containerload services linking India’s largest container port, Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), with Sweden for export shipments and with the United Kingdom for import traffic.
“These are strategic countries catering to a large segment of trade with India. The new direct LCL services reduce transit times and total carbon emissions, efficiently bringing wider business opportunities to India-based customers and Indian Small to Medium Enterprises,” the company said.
DHL said the services offer improved transit times of 25 days from Nhava Sheva to Gothenburg and 27 days from the U.K. to Nhava Sheva.
"The launch of DHL's new LCL services from India are strategically planned to meet the growth of foreign trade amid the rising global demand for such services,” said Thomas Tieber, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding South Asia.
The move follows a series of similar LCL services DHL started from Nhava Sheva to major global destinations, including Los Angeles, Dubai and Durban, over the past two years.
In related news, DHL recently took full ownership of its Indian subsidiary, after buying out its local partner Lemuir Group’s 24 percent stake in DHL Lemuir Logistics Pvt. Ltd. for an undisclosed amount. DHL and Mumbai-based Lemuir set up the joint venture in 2007, which has now been renamed DHL Logistics Pvt. Ltd.
