Saddle Creek is adding facilities in Chicago and Jacksonville, Fla., expanding its network of contract logistics and distribution centers by nearly 800,000 square feet.
The Chicago site, part of the new Centerpoint Intermodal Center, will take up some 416,000 square feet, half of it for integrated logistics services for what Saddle Creek said is a major recreational vehicle manufacturer.
The rest of the distribution center, set to be operational Oct. 1, will be used for other customers and for shifts in business demand.
The 375,000-square-foot site near the Port of Jacksonville is also a multi-customer distribution center, with the main customer a wine logistics company that will take more than half the space,
The site will help Saddle Creek optimize freight transportation costs, the company said. “Augmenting our port presence will also enable Saddle Creek to handle inbound international freight more efficiently,” said Tom Patterson, Saddle Creek’s senior vice president for warehouse operations.
