Weiss Rohlig Acquires Japanese Logistics Firm

The Journal of Commerce Online - News Story
Austrian-German company says U.S. customers will have better air cargo access

Weiss Rohlig said the recent acquisition of Japan’s JHB Express will benefit the joint venture’s U.S. customers and tap growing intra-Asia trade.

WR, a joint venture between Rohlig and Gebruder Weiss, didn’t disclose the cost of the ocean and air logistics firm. WR, which already offers daily forwarding services from Japan to major centers across Asia, will take over JHB’s various importation cargo certificates and licenses.

‘The acquisition will strengthen our presence in the Japan market, complementing our existing operations in Tokyo,” said Joe Lässer, director of air and sea for GW. “In addition we will be able to strengthen our intra-Asia capabilities, which will be a significant benefit for our major trading partners in the US.”

Hikoiku Yoshikawa, the previous owner of JHB, will assume the position of vice president of WR in Japan.
