ANA Cargo Traffic Slips, JAL Tonnage Plummets

Japan’s All Nippon Airways saw cargo traffic slip 0.3 percent in October from the same month last year September, while rival Japan Airlines Corp.'s traffic plummeted 37.6 percent in the same period.

The slight decline in ANA traffic last month came after throughput grew 0.8 percent year-over-year in September. The carrier's international traffic rose 3.2 percent year-over-year in the first seven months of fiscal 2012, which began April 1.

ANA’s domestic cargo volume grew for the fifth straight month in October on a year-over-year basis, rising 1 percent, and domestic traffic was up 1.4 percent in the April- October period.

JAL's cargo traffic fell for the the 17th straight month in October, the rate of decline slowed from the September, when throughput declined 51.6 percent year-over-year. JAL’s international cargo volume in the first seven months of fiscal 2011 was down 54.7 percent year-over-year.

JAL’s domestic cargo volume fell for the 16th straight month in October on a year-over-year basis, plunging 15.4 percent. JAL’s domestic cargo volume in the April-October period was down 18.8 percent year-over-year.
