Far East Land Bridge Begins Europe-China Rail Service

Far East Land Bridge will launch a new rail service in March linking Europe to the thriving manufacturing center of Chongqing in central China.

The new route offered by FELB, which already operates three to four trains a week on northern routes from China to Russia, will boost rail services between Europe and China by offering service through Central Asia via Kazakhstan, rather than Siberia. Some analysts expect services linking Asia and Europe will boom as shippers take advantage of an operation that is faster than ocean shipping and cheaper than air delivery.

Robert Gerendas, president International Group at Far East Land Bridge, said the new service would offer two to three trains weekly from the end of March.

“We’re finalizing details with local government in China and we hope to start after winter in Kazakhstan,” he said.
