Chinese Solar Manufacturers Dim Production

The Journal of Commerce Online - News Story
Companies see global demand slowing, possible U.S. trade barriers

Three major Chinese solar manufacturers are trimming shipment expectations for the rest of the year as a slowing global economy drains demand and proposed trade barriers threaten U.S. sales.

Yingli Green Energy Holding and ReneSola downgraded their shipment forecasts and inventory size, while Suntech Power Holdings stalled capacity expansion plans because of a “volatile macroeconomic environment.”

Yingli cut the amount of solar capacity it expects to deliver in the fourth quarter to 1,580 to 1,630 megawatts, from 1,700 to 1,750 MW, according to EcoSeed, an environmental industry news service. ReneSola decreased its expectations during the same period to 320 to 330 MW, from 330 to 350 MW.

“Weak market demand and industry oversupply continued to affect our business in the third quarter,” Renesola CEO Xianshou Li said. “We expect the challenging conditions in the global solar market to continue in the fourth quarter of this year, as well as into the first quarter of next year. We believe that conditions should improve later in 2012.”

Although Suntech saw shipments during the third quarter grow 15 percent from the previous quarter, Chairman and CEO Zhengrong Shi said the company has “excess supply.”

What an IDIOT! The CEO of a German-subsidiary in the PNW is expecting us all to pay MORE for Solar power! Even at $1-$1.20 per watt, Solar doesn't make sense. All of the experts in this feild believe that solar prices have to come down to $0.35 cents per watt, so that Solar Power will finally make sense! If we can't get cheaper production, no one will accept Solar as a "real alternative fuel source." Worse, the US Government has been in all the news recently for "failed subsidy programs" to Solyndra, Evergreen, etc where we, the tax payers are now on the hook for over $.5 Billion!!! How do you want to have it Americans!??? Either we get cheaper solar production and that makes the use of Solar Power viable, or we don't. We are going to penalize the installers, the salespeople, the maintenance people, the manufacturers in the USA that are receiving these panesl (60% of the GLOBAL production is from China, and at least 10-30% of all US manufacturers of panels use Chinese solar cells) and all of them are going to lose their jobs now, because a German-owned company files suit againts those evil Chinese (the same ones that are actually investing to LOWER the cost of Solar Power in the USA). What a bunch of idiots.
