Chicago insurance firm has ocean, air, trucking expertise

President Obama said he plans to nominate Robert S. Rivkin to be general counsel for the Department of Transportation, tapping a Chicago executive from the Aon risk management and insurance brokerage firm.

Among its business lines, Aon lists insurance products for the ocean shipping, trucking and aviation industries.

Rivkin is currently a vice president and deputy general counsel there, working on business counseling, litigation, regulatory affairs, employment law and government affairs issues for all of Aon’s businesses across the Americas.

The White House also said he “has significant experience with transportation issues,” from working for the Chicago Transit Authority’s bus and rail service to helping set up and lead Obama’s transportation policy committee while he was running for president and working for the transportation transition team afterward.
