FAA Sets Deadline for Airport Funds

The Journal of Commerce Online - News Story
Local authorities must report intent to apply by Feb. 22

The Federal Aviation Administration is asking local airport authorities to report by Feb. 22 if they intend to apply this year for entitlement funds under the Airport Improvement Program, which includes funds for air cargo programs.

The agency said that if local authorities do not meet the deadline, it will be unable to award the funds or declare them protected carryover funds, because the Airport and Airway Trust Fund will expire on March 31.

March 31 is when the latest extension of the Federal Aviation Administration Extension Act expires. The FAA said that if Congress extends the law again, it can continue to grant funds under the improvement program.

The FAA notice may be found in the Jan. 25 Federal Register at http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/2010-1291.htm
