Containerized exports from Australasia/Oceania to most reported regions increased in June 2013, rebounding from steep declines in May, according to data from Container Trades Statistics Ltd. Exports to Europe and Latin America, however, continued to slip.

Containerized exports from Far East Asia to all reported regions, with the exception of South and Central America, experienced growth in June 2013, according to data from Container Trades Statistics Ltd. Exports to the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East as well as Sub-Saharan Africa experienced double-digit growth. Latin America saw the only dip in Far East Asian export volume, although it was a small decline. “Global trades have continued to display promising signs in June, indicating that ocean carriers are starting to capitalize on a rise in demand for containerized cargo,” CTS said in a recent release.

Containerized exports from sub-Saharan Africa to North America and Europe in May experienced slight increases, up roughly 1 percent to each region. Exports to the other regional trades fell more than 10 percent year-over-year, with the largest drop being in containers exported to Australasia and Oceania, according to data from Container Trades Statistics.

The volume of containerized exports from South and Central America to North America in May climbed to its highest level since October 2011, according to data from Container Trades Statistics, Ltd. Latin American exports saw increases in almost all trade lanes, with the exception of a large decline to sub-Saharan Africa.

This is the second straight month of year-over-year increases to all other regions, and the third straight month of declines of exports in Asia.
