Spot container rates from Asia to European ports measured by the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index lost more of their Nov. 1 general rate increase gains in the week ending Nov. 15. Both Mediterranean and northern European lanes have lost roughly $200 per 20-foot-equivalent unit in the past two weeks, following jumps from the Nov. 1 GRI of between $700 and $800 per TEU.

Spot container rates from Asia to the U.S. East and West coasts measured by the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index increased more than $100 per 40-foot container in the week of Nov. 15. This was the first increase in these lanes since early September. The Transpacific Stabilization Agreement recommended an increase of $400 in all Asia-U.S. lanes, set for Nov. 15.

U.S. containerized exports jumped 8.2 percent year-over-year in August, to 1,073,240 20-foot-equivalent units, according to preliminary figures from PIERS, a JOC sister company. This was the highest number of exports within a month since March 2012.

Spot container rates from Asia to the U.S. East and West coasts measured by the Shanghai Containerized Freight Index continued to edge down one week ahead of a proposed Nov. 15 general rate increase. The Transpacific Stabilization Agreement suggested an increase of $400 per 40-foot container in all Asia-U.S. lanes, set for Nov. 15. Carriers such as OOCL, Hapag Lloyd, and U.S. Lines have announced similar increases.
