Guangdong Province in south China is working in several ways to improve its port competitiveness, by encouraging collaboration among Pearl River Delta container terminals, easing customs rules and establishing more robust rail and waterborne connections into the interior, said Liu Xiaohua, Vice Director, Guangdong Provincial Transportation Department.

China's top three ports of 2012 saw year-over-year declines in the volume of containers handled in September. The Port of Dalian, ranked eighth in China in 2012, had the largest increase of the top ports for a seventh straight month, soaring 29.1 percent to 977 thousand TEUs. Dalian continues to see the strongest growth in 2013, up 23.3 percent over the same nine months in 2012.
