China is speeding up its process of ditching a two-year ban on Brazilian red meat with a resumption of imports expected before Christmas, said Brazil’s agriculture minister, Neri Geller. And Saudi Arabia is expected to resume imports of Brazilian beef by the end of this year.

The planned merger of Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd and Compañia Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV) moved closer after shareholders controlling just 2.7 percent of the Chilean company’s stock voted against the deal that will create the world’s fourth-largest ocean container carrier.

U.S. containerized import volume rose 6.2 percent year-over-year in January 2014, according to advance figures from PIERS, the data division of JOC Group Inc. Imports totaled 1.58 million TEUs in January. January imports were up roughly 10 percent from containerized volume in December.
