Freight management provider Geodis Wilson has appointed Mathieu Renard Biron as their new Regional Vice President for Asia Pacific. He will be responsible for spearheading Geodis Wilson’s drive to capture a greater market share of business in this fast expanding region.
Aged 43 and a French citizen by birth, Mathieu has spent some 19 years based in the Asia Pacific area, most of them working for the Geodis Group, where he began his career as Sales Executive for Geodis Thailand in 1991. He went on to become Area Director for Thailand and the Greater Mekong Area in 1997, and, after a break of five years working for a manufacturing and retail group, as well as for ID Logistics Asia, he returned to Geodis Wilson as Regional Director for South Asia in 2006.
Geodis Wilson appointed a well experienced manager for a challenging market situation. Mathieu Biron, who had to manage several change processes in his career, believes “challenges also spell opportunities. And Asia Pacific offers a great opportunity: not only is it a rapidly expanding export market, it is growing internally too. The burgeoning middle classes in most countries of the Asian region are demanding ever more sophisticated consumer products – and they are sourcing those both internally and externally. We have to learn how to get in to those internal markets, to be proactive in them, and to harness local expertise.”
However, Mathieu Biron says it’s important to keep a global view: “Working in Asia is always very stimulating and exciting – it’s a fast moving place with a lot of business opportunities”, says Mathieu. “But you need to maintain a degree of detachment and not to have exclusively an Asian view of the business. In that way, it is much easier to deal even-handedly with the cultural diversity you encounter, and to build a strong team and network from people with differing cultures and mentalities. Working with people in this region is something I have always enjoyed, and I am very much looking forward to continuing to do so in my new role.”
