Former Customs Commissioner George Weise to Join STTAS

Weise will join the firm’s Washington, D.C., office May 3 as executive vice president to lead STTAS’ government services practice. In his new role, Weise will provide leadership and advice to governments as well as private sector business interests.

With over 35 years of service in both the public and private sectors, Weise possesses unparalleled experience in customs and international trade matters. As commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service from 1993 to 1997, he managed more than 20,000 employees and led the implementation of a historic agency reorganization and modernization. Previously, as staff director for the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee, Weise demonstrated leadership, technical expertise and negotiating skills that were crucial to the achievement of major trade initiatives including NAFTA, the Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the Customs Modernization Act.

Following his retirement from government service, Weise held executive-level positions in the private sector advising clients on international trade matters and global compliance strategies. Today, he is globally recognized as one of the foremost authorities on customs, trade and supply chain matters.
