India’s federal government has taken steps to meet demand for edible oils in the country, according to India's Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.
The import duty on crude edible oils has been reduced to 0 percent, and the import duty on refined edible oils has been reduced to 7.5 percent.
The government has also banned the export of edible oils, except coconut oil, and allowed state governments to impose stock limits on edible oils and oilseeds.
Additionally, the government has further expanded a tax scheme for distribution of subsidized imported edible oils to states.
