India’s Trade Deficit Widens to $182 Billion

India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry reported the trade deficit from April 2012 to February 2013 was $182.1 billion, expanding from the deficit of $169.8 billion in the same period in the previous year.

Exports in February were valued at $26.3 billion, increasing 4.2 percent from $25.2 billion in February 2012. The cumulative value of exports from April 2012 to February 2013 fell 4.0 percent year-over-year from $277.1 billion to $265.9 billion.

Imports in February reached $41.2 billion, rising 2.7 percent from $40.1 billion in the same month in 2012. The cumulative value of imports from April 2012 to February 2013 was $448.0 billion, up 0.3 percent compared with 446.9 billion.
