The number of Americans newly filing claims for unemployment benefits declined last week by 9,000 to a seasonally adjusted 363,000, in a sign of continuation in the U.S. labor market's slow recovery, according to the Labor Department.

A four-week moving average of weekly initial jobless claims is down to about 367,000 from above 387,000 in early June.
