U.S. industrial production increased 0.4 percent in September from August. Year-over-year, industrial production grew 2.8 percent, the Federal Reserve Board reported.
Manufacturing edged up 0.2 percent in September from August, and was 3.2 percent higher year-over year. Mining production increased 0.9 percent and grew 3.8 percent year-over-year. Production in the electric and gas industries increased 1.5 percent for the month, but declined 1.4 percent year-over-year.
Capacity utilization inched up by a 0.3 percentage point to 78.3 percent, a rate 2 percentage points below its long-run (1972-2011) average.
