U.S. diesel prices rose for the fifth straight week, jumping 5.3 cents in the week ending Feb. 18.

For a larger version of the chart, click on the image.The average price, $4.157, is up 5 percent from the same week a year ago. The price of diesel is now above $4 per gallon in all regions of the country.
Prices have risen 26.3 cents or 6.8 percent since the third week of January, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The last time prices rose this much over a six-week period was from July 23 to Aug 27, 2012, when the price rose 30.6 cents or 8.1 percent. Although prices continue to rise, they have done so at a slower rate over the past two weeks; this week showed only a 1.3 percent increase from the week before.
Prices in the Rocky Mountain and Gulf Coast regions jumped $.07 per gallon to put them above the $4 per gallon mark. New England experienced a 7 cent increase as well. The other regions continued their small but steady rise.
