The average cost of diesel in the U.S. dropped 4.6 cents in the week ending Dec. 17, falling for the third straight week.
The average cost per gallon, $3.945, is up 11.7 cents from a year ago, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The price drop is the eighth in nine weeks.
Prices fell across the country, with the Rocky Mountain region seeing the sharpest drop. The average price of diesel per gallon in the region dropped 7.2 cents to $3.866. The New England region saw the weakest decline in prices, with the average cost per gallon diesel slipping 2 cents to $4.155
The New England and Central Atlantic regions, along with California, are the only areas in the country. where prices average $4 or more per gallon.
