Joel L. Sutherland Honored with CSCMP Award

Joel L. Sutherland, managing director of Lehigh University’s Center for Value Chain Research will receive the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' 2009 Distinguished Service Award.

CSCMP presents the award annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the art and science of supply chain and logistics management. The award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an individual for achievement in these two professions.

Sutherland will be honored during the Keynote Session on September 21, at CSCMP’s Annual Global Conference in Chicago, Illinois. He is the 44th person to receive the award since it was inaugurated in 1965 as a tribute to John Drury Sheahan, a pioneer logistics consultant and partner in the consulting firm that bore his name.

“Joel Sutherland’s long and distinguished career has been defined by innovation,” said Rick Blasgen, president and CEO of CSCMP. “From his executive beginnings at Denso, where he mastered Toyota Production System/Lean principles, to his visionary leadership in outsourced logistics with CSX and Transplace, to his current role at Lehigh University, Joel has dedicated his career to creating innovative techniques, processes, and solutions to improve supply chain efficiency and effectiveness. He is also an inspirational leader who believes in leadership by example and has greatly contributed to raising awareness of the supply chain management profession around the world.”

Sutherland has over 30 years’ experience as a logistics and supply chain professional, having worked for manufacturers, wholesale distributors, and third party logistics service providers in a variety of industries, including automotive, paper, and pharmaceuticals.
