The organizers of China’s biggest trade fair blamed declining demand for exports for falling turnover and attendances at last month’s 112th session of the Canton Fair.
The show attracted 188,145 international participants from 211 countries, which was at least 10 percent lower than the attendance for both the spring session and last year’s autumn show, while a turnover of $32.7 billion was 9.3 percent lower than the spring show.
China’s official news agency Xinhua reported that ‘insiders’ had blamed weak global demand and the Eurozone debt crisis for the decline in performance.
"The double declines have shown China's severe situations in foreign trade,” said a spokesman for the Fair. “The good news is that some Chinese enterprises have shown their competitiveness with [new] brands and innovations.”
