U.S. industrial real estate is breaking ground in certain gateway markets, most notably in Chicago, according to data and analysis provided by commercial real estate services firm Jones Lang LaSalle. However, overall U.S. growth is not restricted to a particular region. Year-to-date, 42 of 48 JLL-tracked markets are showing positive net absorption gains.

U.S. retail and food service sales increased for a fourth straight month in July 2013, inching up 0.2 percent from June to $424.5 billion, according to the latest seasonally adjusted retail report from the Census Bureau. This was down from June's monthly 0.6 percent increase, which had been the third consecutive increase at an accelerated rate.

The Journal of Commerce For-Hire Trucking Employment Index rose 0.4 percentage points to a new high of 95.9 in July after declining over the previous two months, as trucking companies added more than 6,000 jobs to meet rising freight demand.
