Cooperation set for U.S.-China data and analysis, conference support

The Journal of Commerce and sister company PIERS signed a strategic agreement with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange to share more data on trade between the United States and China.

The agreement, signed last week in Shanghai, also calls for the SSE to support The Journal of Commerce’s Container Shipping Conference in Shanghai, which will be held for the second time in June 2012.

Under the pact, The Journal of Commerce will publish the SSE’s indices, including the SCFI Shanghai Containerized Freight Index, both entities will collaborate on U.S.-China import and export data analysis and SSE will support the June conference, which is also backed by the Shanghai International Port Group and the Hongkou District government.

Greg March, Asia director for The Journal of Commerce, said the agreement “completely intertwines with our strategy and coverage in Asia,” where the JOC also runs an annual conference in Shenzhen, TPM Asia.

At the same meeting, the SSE also launched its China Coastal Bulk Freight Index, with members including COSCO, China Shipping, Cargill and SIPG.
