Zim Sets Asia-Europe Peak Season Surcharge

Joins other ocean carriers in imposing rate restoration on trade lane

Zim Integrated Shipping Services imposed a peak season surcharge on westbound cargo moving from Asia and the Indian subcontinent to West Mediterranean, Adriatic and North Europe destinations, staring Aug. 15.

The Israel-based carrier joins other major ocean carriers on Asia-Europe trade lanes in imposing rate restoration. The surcharge will be $150 per 20-foot container.

The announcement follows a $275 per-TEU rate hike the carrier implemented on the same route as of Aug. 1.

 Commentary: Future Shock 

Other recent rate increase announcements on Asia-Europe trades include: $125 per TEU by Hapag-Lloyd as of Aug. 1; $250 per TEU by Mediterranean Shipping Company starting Aug. 8; $200 per TEU by CMA-CGM starting Aug. 14; and $150 per TEU by Hamburg Sud starting Aug. 15.
