New World Alliance Begins Third Trans-Atlantic Service

The New World Alliance, consisting of three Asian ocean container carriers, will begin a service connecting north Europe and the U.K. with the U.S. East Coast and Panama at the end of February.

The weekly Americas Europe Express service will deploy five ships with average capacities of 3,200 20-foot equivalent units each, including a high proportion of reefrigerated containers. APL will provide three vessels and its partners Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL will each contribute one ship to the New World’s Alliance’s third dedicated trans-Atlantic service.

The Alliance said the service offers shippers multiple weekly sailings between major U.S. and European ports, as well as competitive transit times from Latin America to North Europe via a transshipment hub in Panama.

The Americas Europe Express port rotation is: Manzanillo, Charleston, New York, Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Felixstowe, New York,Charleston and back to Manzanillo. The APL Shanghai will sail from Rotterdam Feb. 29 on the inaugural westbound voyage, and the APL Indonesia will launch the eastbound leg out of Manzanillo March 5.
