APL imposed a peak-season surcharge on westbound trade from India to Europe and the Mediterranean, starting Feb. 1.

The proposed surcharge on dry and refrigerated cargo to Europe will be $100 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot/high cube container.

The Singapore-based container carrier said it will apply a general rate increase on all shipments from India to the Mediterranean, also effective Feb. 1. The planned GRI will be $50 per TEU and $100 per FEU.

Other major carriers that plan to apply similar increases as of Feb. 1 on India-Europe trade lanes include CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, Zim Integrated Shipping Services and Shipping Corporation of India.
