Horizon Lines Posts Third Quarter Profit

Horizon Lines reported a profit on Oct. 31 of $1.4 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 30, a substantial improvement from its loss of $111.7 million in the same quarter last year.

The Jones Act carrier’s third-quarter operating revenue from continuing operations increased 4.5 percent to $279.6 million from $267.6 million a year earlier.

Container volume for the third quarter totaled 61,514 revenue loads, up 3.4 percent from 59,518 loads for the same period a year earlier. Unit revenue per container totaled $4,245 in the 2012 third quarter, compared with $4,171 in 2011.
