SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS—Port San Antonio has added Antonio R. Salinas III as its newest manager on the facility’s business development team. Salinas will focus on the growth of domestic and international logistics offerings at Port San Antonio’s East Kelly Railport and related import and export services for Port customers and other area businesses.
Salinas has more than a decade of experience in international logistics, customs compliance and distribution. His previous work includes overseeing shipping, inventory control and other logistics operations for a wide range of clients, including big box retailers Wal-Mart, JCPenney, Academy Sports + Outdoors and The Finish Line.
“With Antonio’s expertise, the Port will continue to grow its range of transportation services for businesses that need goods sent to or brought in from around the world,” said Bruce Miller, President and CEO of Port San Antonio. “He possesses the skills and experience to help our city grow as an international trade hub.”
“Antonio will help customers by connecting them with the Port’s wide range of logistics assets, including a railport, an industrial airport with air cargo capacity, ample distribution centers, an on-site U.S. Customs facility, access to three major interstate highways and the Port’s designation as a foreign trade zone,” said Jorge Canavati, Port San Antonio’s Vice President of Business Development. “He will also support our efforts to expand trade relationships around the world.”
Port San Antonio’s business development team has already established a logistics route with Asia, whereby goods travel by ship from China to the port city of Lázaro Cárdenas on Mexico’s Pacific coast. From there cargo is transported by train to Port San Antonio’s East Kelly Railport for distribution throughout the U.S.
Recently, Port San Antonio hosted the Vice-Mayor of Yiwu, China—a city where over 10,000 manufacturers showcase their products in a large exposition center to international wholesale buyers. Among their upcoming projects, Salinas and his colleagues will develop a memorandum of understanding for cargo movement of goods between the U.S. and Yiwu through Port San Antonio.
Salinas will also coordinate with other business development managers and the Port’s representatives in China and Brazil to market the facility’s logistics services to potential clients around the world.
